Alison "Cicada" Aether is a lifelong artist with an ever-evolving fascination with creative expression and the metaphysical.
Born Alison Marie Reber in 1991 and raised in the historical city of Memphis, TN, the arts and the heart were always important to Alison. She grew up in a creative family with her father who is a photographer, her mother who is a graphic designer and painter, and her little brother who is a sculptor. Although her school elective was actually choir and she loved mathematics, Alison knew her path was in art and nurtured her skill at home and in art courses or programs every summer.
Constantly experimenting with her appearance, Alison became known for her wild hairstyles and unique clothing pieces from an early age. She enjoyed transforming herself into any work of art she could imagine while discovering what made her feel most like herself. Whether dying her hair a new vibrant color, getting henna and hairwraps at the festival where she was the volunteer facepainter, or getting caught drawing on her friends in class with gel pens or sharpies- decorating the body became a natural part of life for Alison.
To further her art education, Alison moved to Columbus, Ohio for college and began unfolding her tattoo career in the process. Her artwork was figurative and often challenged the status quo. Her drive to always think outside the box made philosophy class favored over a few fine art classes --where she made virtually any assignment she could be about body art. Her sophomore year, she found a tattoo apprenticeship and has been tattooing professionally ever since 2011. She graduated magna cum laude from Columbus College of Art & Design in 2013 with a BFA in Fine Arts and a minor in Fashion Design.
Alison now lives in the eclectic mountain town of Manitou Springs, Colorado with her husband and cat. She opened her own private tattoo studio, Triiiptych Tattoo, in 2019, and has been thriving as she meets new magical people each day who request to wear her mystical body art. When Alison is not tattooing or drawing, she is most likely listening to an audiobook about self-development or researching spiritual topics. Between her ballpoint ink & highlighter sketches are notes upon notes of different lists of correspondences or studies of esoteric diagrams that tie macro to micro.
Alison is fluent in a variety of art mediums, symbolism, transcendental concepts and continues to take joy in expanding herself. As much as 'fine artist' or 'painter' or 'illustrator' or 'tattoo artist' or 'mystic' or 'intuitive' or many other labels may all be accurate to describe Alison, she feels it most fitting to sum herself up as simply a 'Creator'.
